Driver Monitoring is an Artificial Intelligence-based vehicle safety technology that monitors the driver’s behaviour through a camera. Its purpose is to detect a driver’s levels of vigilance through software and alert him/her/the user in cases of any drowsiness, distractions, etc. to avoid accidents.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) every year the lives of approximately 1.3 million people are cut short as a result of road accidents and 20 and 50 million more people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many incurring a disability as a result of their injury.
How Driver Behaviour Monitoring works
A camera is placed inside the vehicle facing only the driver that captures multiple movements and features of the driver. The camera inspects the driver’s behaviour based on the image captured and detects whether he/she is alert, sleepy or distracted (eating, smoking, drinking, talking on the phone, reckless driving). The system also has a provision to detect the number of times the driver yawns or even if he/she looks elsewhere.
Benefits of Driver Behaviour Monitoring
A unique technology that can monitor the behaviour of drivers and can prevent road accidents and deaths. It will be a turning point in the world of semi-autonomous driving.
The Driver Behaviour Monitoring alerts the driver to ensure he/she doesn’t fall asleep or get distracted during driving. In addition, Driver Behaviour Monitoring allows remote monitoring of the driver. For Fleet Management organizations, the system can help monitor the effectiveness and safety of its drivers from a remote location and alert them if required.
